The English Department at Castle Peak Catholic Primary School works hard to ensure that learning English is interesting, engaging and challenging. Our English teachers work together to provide students with abundant opportunities to develop their English skills inside and outside the classroom.We had the following activities last year.

 

 

1. Harrow International School -- English Programmem

 

Some outstanding students have been invited by Mr Brandan Shanahan of Harrow International Schools, HK., to join their English learning programme since 2021. Our students take part in Harrow’s Super-Curriculum activities every week. They enjoy interacting with the Harrow students very much.

 

 

 

2. Lunchtime Booth Games

 

To create a language-rich learning environment, teachers and students have interesting English games at lunchbreaks. Our English ambassadors are helpful and caring. They play board games and read online with their fellow students at lunch break.

 

 

 

3. Rural Schools Service Project (Happy English)

 

Our school joined this project organised by the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Students participated in inter-school language activities. Besides, the exchange students from HKCU are invited to our school to play language games with our Primary 1 students every week during interest group sessions.

 

 

 

4. Choral Speaking (77th Hong Kong Speech Festival)

 

Our girls’ choral speaking team got the first in the 77th Hong Kong Speech Festival. /p>

 

 

 

5. English Drama

 

The drama team practised hard for their show. In the show, they have to collect all the CPCPS qualities, caring, patient, confident, proactive and sincere for the Talent Show from the judges. Can they do it?

 

 

6. English Day

 

English Day was held after Assessment 3. Students participated various interactive activities, they played group games in class with their English teachers, had an exciting inter-class English competition, booth games and watched an interactive drama show and a magic show.

 

 

7. Battle of the Books

 

11 students joined the Battle of the Books, a friendly inter-school reading contest, and earned a ‘Merit of Distinction’. In this event, teams read a curated list of titles and compete in fast-paced quizzes to demonstrate comprehension, recall, and teamwork. Our students trained regularly, built strong reading habits, and gained confidence while collaborating with peers.

 

 

8. Public Speaking Competition- Time to Talk

 

Some Primary 5 students participated in EDB’s "Time to Talk" public speaking competition in June. They stepped up with poise and passion, earning a well-deserved Merit Award! We are incredibly proud of the hard work they put in and the immense confidence they showed on stage.
